selecting bar & counter stools
Tip 1 - Style
The hardest part about picking bar stools and counter stools isn’t measuring, but knowing what will work well in your kitchen.Whether the style of your kitchen is traditional, rustic or contemporary, you can find a stool that complements your look. There’s no need to be too matchy-matchy. If, for example, your dining room is adjacent to your kitchen, it’s not necessary to match the style of seating. And if you already have a lot of wood, try mixing it up with metal stools.
If your stools are in a busy or narrow corridor or you don’t want a tall profile that overwhelms your island, choose backless seating that can easily tuck under and away. But if you love to entertain and want something more lounge-worthy, choose a broad-backed stool with deep seating.
Tip 2 - Height - “What is the difference between bar stools and counter stools?”
Bar stools generally have seat heights that are around 29 inches high (29 to 32 inches as a rule) in order to fit under table tops with a height of 40 to 42 inches. Counter stools have a seat height of 24 to 29 inches high for table surfaces that are 34 to 36 inches high.
Tip 3 - Function
There are many reasons to choose one type of stool over another. Some of our clients with little kids want to avoid swivel or backless stools, while others want to be able to move them throughout their home for multiple uses. Whatever your reasoning, make sure you love the function of your stools just as much as you love how they look!
