couch pillow placement
Step 1 - Create a color palette
Our first step is to create a color palette. Start by use your couch color as the jumping off point, and create a higher end look by allowing colors to gently flow into each other. We like using neutral tan and linen colors that naturally flow, and then weave in the bolder hues. When selecting pillows, it’s important to remember, the pillows are accents to the piece, not the piece itself. Don’t overthink the pillow grouping and design. Remember: you can always change up the pillows and put them in different spots. Mix and match fabrics, textures and patterns you love.
Step 2 - Start with the largest
When selecting throw pillows, size is a big consideration. Pick a pillow too big and it will eat your sofa or chair. Start with the back corner of the sectional and put your biggest pillow there. We always use a 24” inch pillow. It may seem big, but you don’t want it to get covered by the layered pillows in the front!

Step 3 - Layer in medium sizes
After we have our 24′ inch pillows, we use a 22′ inch on both ends of the sectional to start filling in the look. We apply this same rule to that stubborn middle, too!

Step 4 - Finish with small sizes
Create layers in the corner with accent throw pillows, adding 20” pillows, some lumbars, and maybe even round pillows. This corner should have the most! Usually we use a 12” x 20” or 12” x 24”.

Step 5 - Add a throw
Our final touch is to add a throw. It gives the space a lived-in feel, and provides an element of comfort. They cozy up a bare couch while adding color, pattern, and texture to the living room space. Plus, they’re essential when you want to snuggle up and get all comfy when lounging in your family room. Yep, throw blankets are a must for just about any couch space.

PRO TIPS
Important make a note that when you’re buying an insert for pillow covers, always go up one size. Ex. if the pillow cover is 24'' then buy a 26'' insert.
Down inserts will come really flat from being packaged. Just fluff up over and over and then insert into the cover for best results. If you're allergic to down - chose a down alternative!
